Join the exciting world of innovation and creation through the 3D Printing Discovery Workshop at the Challenger Learning Center of Northeast Alabama — a hands-on learning experience designed for students and parents who want to explore the possibilities of 3D printing together.

Whether participants already own a 3D printer and are unsure where to begin or are considering purchasing one and want to better understand how it works, this engaging workshop provides a welcoming introduction to the basics of 3D printing technology in a fun, supportive environment. Participants will be provided USB drives filled with STL files to use at home!

During the experience, participants will:

  • Learn the basic parts and functions of a 3D printer and how the printing process works.
  • Explore different types of printers, materials, and beginner-friendly tools.
  • Gain an understanding of slicing software, printer setup, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Discover how 3D printing is used in STEM careers, engineering, medicine, manufacturing, and space exploration.
  • Participate in hands-on activities that encourage creativity, innovation, and problem-solving.

Participants will also discuss practical tips for choosing the right printer, avoiding common beginner mistakes, and safely operating equipment at home or in educational settings. No prior experience is required, making this workshop perfect for curious beginners of all ages.

Designed to inspire creativity and confidence, the workshop helps families see how 3D printing can turn ideas into reality while opening the door to future learning in science, technology, engineering, art, and design.
